I recommend you use DHCP if possible, but otherwise the relevant lines
in /etc/network/interfaces are:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
	address 192.168.0.6
	netmask 255.255.255.0
	gateway 192.168.0.1

Then

# ifdown eth0; ifup eth0

Dhcp would be 

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
