I think you're reading Javi's answer too quickly, or maybe he wrote it
too quickly, being very busy in lots of activities related to Debian.
Anyways, I think you should try again and certainly don't be angry to
Javi. E-mail is well known for such bad disputes. He maybe just wasn't
aware of the level of help you were asking for in order to be able to
start helping in l10n...or maybe he can't offer you this help or the
needed time.....
There are other informations available for the specific topic of
Debian Installer translations. For instance, look at links

If that's not enough, feel free to ask again. Quite often, we all who
work in these l10n topics for a long time sometimes forget that some
basics concepts may be a little to obvious for us and far from obvious
for newcomers to l10n (I still try to remember how puzzled I was when
dealing with my first PO file...:-)))
So, "ne baisse pas les bras" as we say in french. The hardest part
when it comes at helping in this community is the start. Few weeks
after, you will just regret how quiet you were before offering your
help..:-)
Of course, if you feel more comfortable with your own language, you
can also continue in -l10n-spanish in spanish. But, of course, you
will lose me then...:-)
