well, the first thing I did was:

                            apt-get install kdebase

                    apt-get install kde-libs

At which point, apt went to work and installed some stuff. (I'm a newbie so
forgive my obvious ignorance.)

After that finished I started

               apt-get install kdebase

which is working, although at the moment its stalled.

also in there I occasionally had to use the --fix-missing option.

I haven't heard of task-kde. If that's the way to go then that's what I'll try
next. As for dselect, I'm not clear on how to use that for installing packages
from the web. Do I do something under "Access?"
