Hi Stephanie,

I think this is a kernel problem. I've seen similar behaviour. At
varying times over the last few months and different machines (and the
kernel would have been changing) sometimes the tests have locked the
machine up tight, sometimes the tests freeze but can just be Ctrl-c'd,
and sometimes they complete.

A couple of things you could try on the SuSE system to confirm this:

- Replace the kernel with a recent 2.4.x kernel

- Replace the the kernel with one as used on the Red Hat 7.1 system
  (with all the supplied patches).
