I am only able to test on Debian systems. The manpage is very sparse and
doesn't make any statements about the offending behavior, so I had to
create test cases.

I'd be happy to pass along my test procedures to anyone who wants to try
another distro. It is a matter of a couple of text files to feed dd, and
some specific command lines. Let me know and I'll pass this along,
although I suspect the contents should be pretty obvious.
