Now that the PR release is out...

Two things:

1) Linux & Standards FAQ

I'm in the process of writing such a document. Not just to do with the
LSB, but also to deal with some other standards based issues, and to get
through the alphabet soup of acronyms and standards. Any suggestions or
contributions are appreciated.

2) Goals of the LSB

Did the transitions of the last month eliminate all the work done to date?
I mean, here we are re-opening the Perl thing ferheavensakes, long after
its non-inclusion appeared to get consensus early on.

While we certainly have the structure for everything down pat, I really
hope that the original goals (if not tactics) that Bruce presented to LI
remain intact. That is, the LSB should strive to be a minimalist standard,
only attempting to impose common interface definitions where required for
the purposes of installing and configuring software. If the LSB has
broadeneded its goals to define a minimal distro I haven't heard about it.

We must resist the pull of -- ahem -- external forces to reshape what was
a good idea from the very beginning. That is, we are not here to define
all sorts of end-user tools, installation systems, scripting languages or
looks-and-feels. While it certainly is helpful that those things we *do*
define are compatible with existing standards such as POSIX, I don't think
it was ever the LSB's mandate to define a whole OS the way POSIX does.

LI had indicated that some form of tracking Unix standards from a Linux
context would be desirable, but it became a side issue and not part of the
mandate of the LSB. We will have enough of a task doing just this
minimalist part right, why take on more?
