Re: Overbite Android 0.2.6
Excellent. I should have thought of it to begin with. I've added a warning to
the installation page and the Old VCR blog post. Thanks for finding that!
As far as older versions of Android, the problem is I'm currently developing on
an M1 Mac and apparently Google won't support running the emulator on Apple
silicon with API 27 or earlier (they are 32-bit only). There should be some way
to run a full-system emulator instead of a virtualized one since it's really a
hacked QEMU but I haven't figured it out yet. Digging out an old version is not
very convenient and Google doesn't really want you supporting old versions of
Android anyway for their own complicated reasons.
If I can get Android Studio working on my POWER9 Raptor Talos II, then there's
no virtualization required for the emulator because there's never been a
PowerPC Android device, and thus I should be able to run any version of Android
on the emulator there. The trick is that there's no native POWER9 version of
Android Studio so I'm still sorting out how to run the build tools in emulation
themselves under qemu user mode or box64. Ah, the pleasures of minority
architectures ...
