Package: apt
Version: 1.1.4
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

On a system with /var/cache/apt/archives mounted as tmpfs, after 1.0.10.2 -> 1.1.3
update (but persisting in 1.1.4), `apt-get autoclean` fails with:

E: Unable to read /var/cache/apt/archives/partial/ - opendir (2: No such file
or directory)

This causes aptitude with "Remove obsolete package files after downloading
new package lists" option enabled to throw an error after package list
update, until manual creation of said directory.

I found two past, resolved bugs which may be similar to the issue: #523920
#762898
