First of all: Thanks for your report!

The bug you reported is fixed already in unstable
and will hopefully migrate to testing in ~one week.
The changelog for this version includes:

   [ Julian Andres Klode ]
   * apt/progress/__init__.py:
     - Correctly ignore ECHILD by checking before EINTR (Closes: #546007)

You can also cherry-pick the fix from the repository
if you don't want to install the package from unstable:
http://bzr.debian.org/loggerhead/apt/python-apt/debian-sid/revision/271

I am therefore close the bug for you -
if you think this is wrong please feel free to reopen it.

Best regards / Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

David "DonKult" Kalnischkies
