Bug#547441: apt error Dynamic MMap ran out of room

Hi Michel Briand,

First of all: Thanks for your report!

> E: Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 18500000. (man 5 apt.conf)
[...]
> APT::Cache-Limit "18500000";
You set this value on your own in your /etc/apt/apt.conf file or in a
fragment file in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ - so please try it at first without
this setting as the default is a bit higher.
(around 25 MB i think, not only ~18,5 MB)
If this is really not enough you should increase the value a bit with this
setting. (As the error message already suggests)

Another idea is to clean up your sources.list(.d), as you need quite a few
entries to let the MMap ran out of room - maybe you have some duplicates
in it or "unneeded" ones (e.g. oldstable in an unstable system).

If this helps it would be great if you could close the bug.
You can also merge it to the group of related bugs starting with #195018,
but as it doesn't add any value to the group it would only pollute
the group, i think.

Oh, and while we are on it:
> Package: e17*
This doesn't work. apt_preferences doesn't support wildchars/regex beside
the general all packages wildchar. You need to list all packages you want
to pin, so this line should be e.g.
Package: e17 e17-dbg e17-dev e17-data
