Package: apt
Version: 0.5.28.6
Severity: normal

This command:

  apt-get -c /etc/apt/sources.list update

gives error:

  E: Syntax error /etc/apt/sources.list:10: Extra junk at end of file

but the file structure is perfect:

     # nl -ba /etc/apt/sources.list
     1  #deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main
     2
     3  deb http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/ testing main
     4  deb-src http://ftp.fi.debian.org/debian/ testing main
     5
     6  deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main
     7
     8  deb http://deb.opera.com/opera unstable non-free
     9  deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ unstable main

Whereas plain "apt-get update" works fine.

That's hardly surprising, given that you're trying to use -c for something
it was never designed for.

>From apt-get(8):

     -c

       --config-file
              Configuration File; Specify a configuration file to
              use. The program will read the default configura
              tion file and then this configuration file. See
              apt.conf(5) for syntax information.

sources.list is *not* apt.conf, so naturally trying to substitute one for
the other will fail. What you appear to be attempting is

  apt-get -o Item::Dir::Etc::SourceList=/etc/apt/sources.list update

also as per apt-get(8)

Closing this report as due to user error.

Adam
