Bug#235725: apt has trouble when reinstalling a purged pkg that was held

Package: apt
Version: 0.5.23

I had mozilla-thunderbird and mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail
held at version 0.5-1 because of bugs #234177 and #234118.
I decided to follow the directions here:
http://www.jwsdot.com/debian/ and purge and reinstall
with the new version (0.5-2).

Here is what happened:

sanchezr@miami:~$ sudo apt-get remove --purge mozilla-thunderbird mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  mozilla-thunderbird* mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 81 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B of archives.
After unpacking 33.7MB disk space will be freed.

<at this point the packages installed normally, but it looks
like apt should find the latest version automatically>
