I'm not sure how featureful apt in slink is w.r.t. ftp proxies, but I've
been using it from behind a firewall for months, using a http proxy.

Try setting the environment variable "http_proxy" to something like
"http://you.proxy:8080"; (assuming your.proxy is the name of your proxy and
8080 is the port the proxydaemon listens on.)  Don't forget to export it.

Arguably, it might be nice if apt could also use a configuration file
setting, but the http_proxy is really a sort of well-established practice
for many programs.

AFAIK, the http_proxy method should work fine with slink's apt (worked for
me anyway.)  I think apt has had a bunch of features (and documentation)
added, ftp proxies being one IIRC.
