1.) When trying to install Debian Wheezy from Netinstall, nothing can be selected after setup screen appears. If replacing the Logitech K340 USB Keyboard by a standard AT keyboard, everything works fine and Wheezy installs. Note that this error happens independent of Wheezy 32/64 or Kernel.
Further, Squeeze recognizes the USB Keyboard.

2.) After installation, the Logitech K340 was attached to the computer. The system, respectively GNOME has recognized it without problems. But the layout is set wrongly: I need the Swiss German layout. Although reconfiguring everything, /etc/default/keyboard is setup correctly, i.e. the content:

# KEYBOARD CONFIGURATION FILE

# Consult the keyboard(5) manual page.

XKBMODEL="pc105"
XKBLAYOUT="ch"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS="terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"

BACKSPACE="guess"

The only thing which helps is to start the command:

setxkbmap ch

If this is executed, there are no problems with the keyboard. However, I do not yet know how to automatize this command such that I don't have to enter it after every reboot. It might be a German speaking keyboard specific issue related to USB keyboards as reported by other users in the web.

3.) During Installation of Wheezy or Squeeze, I wanted to choose as Diplay language English, which worked. Then I have choose as country other, but for locale Settings (such as currrency etc.), one is forced to choose an English speaking country. Note that the keyboard format could be set to Swiss German. It would be nice if everything could be set independently, i.e. display language for eg. English, locale settings Switzerland, keyboard Swiss. 

I am using Debian GNU/Linux Wheezy, 3.2.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Mar 4 22:48:17 UTC 2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

Closing this old bug.  It was never an x11-xkb-utils issue as far as I
can tell, and there's not enough information to usefully reassign
elsewhere 10 years later; hopefully whatever it was has been fixed in
the mean time.
