Package: weston
Version: 8.0.0-1
Severity: normal
Control: block #966535 by -1

pipewire 0.3 has now hit experimental. As discussed in #966535 and
on #debian-kde, the first step for transition #966535 is to make sure
the few packages that currently B-D on pipewire 0.2 can be recompiled
with 0.3.

In the case of weston, my understanding is that the next upstream version
will have pipewire 0.3 support, but the version in testing/unstable does
not. There are two options, please choose one:

1. Upload weston 8.0.0-2 to unstable soon, disabling pipewire support.
After this has been done, #966535 will no longer be blocked by this
bug (which can be retitled to "enable pipewire 0.3 support" or similar,
   and downgraded to wishlist).

2. Backport Pipewire 0.3 support from
   https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/weston/-/merge_requests/456
(which was recently merged), switch the B-D to libpipewire-0.3-dev,
and upload to experimental. When the transition goes ahead, either
re-upload to unstable, or give the go-ahead for someone to do a 0-day
   NMU to unstable.

Thanks,
    smcv

Hello,

Version 9.0.0-1 in unstable has pipewire disabled.
Version 9.0.0-2~exp1 in experimental has pipewire 0.3 ABI support
backported and enabled. Please test it out if possible.

Regards
