Dear Michel, first of all thank you for replying so promptly as well
as thanx for reassigning to the proper package.

I'm on an intel integrated graphics card . I was able to run
gnome-shell or run various games and programs without this assertion
before. Am totally clueless as to what could have gone wrong.

$ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 10)

The processor is a dual-core E5400 @ 2.70GHz (45nm SOC) .

Please lemme know if anything I can do to help or at least pinpoint the issue.
