Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.6.1-1
Severity: normal

So there I was, minding my own business when I decided to roll
backwards in my chair. It just happened that my USB keyboard cable had
managed to work its way underneath one of the casters on my chair and
my backwards movement pulled it from the usb jack in the machine. For
a few moments I was confused about why I couldn't type anymore, and
then discovered what had happened. I slid the USB interface back into
the port and then proceded to try to type, ONLY TO FIND THAT I WAS
STUCK IN UPPERCASE. If I held down the shift key, it would return to
normal, but no sane person types that way. The capslock key did not
function at all to toggle things, and my capslock light was on.

I'm running the awesome window manager, and I have bound my MOD4 key
to be capslock through my ~/.Xmodmap as follows:

! No Caps Lock
clear lock
! Caps Lock as Win key
add mod4 = Caps_Lock

I could get things back by struggling with my root password with my
inverted shift key and then executing: setxkbmap us

This is relatively new behavior because I am ashamed to admit that
I've been pulling out my usb keyboard in this manner for at least a
month now, because I am too lazy to route the cord behind my desk and
this did not happen before.

I can repeat the issue quite easily and would be happy to provide any
more information, or tests as needed to help debug.

Thanks!
micah

thanks for the update. I'm closing this bug accordingly.
