If you're mixing packaged stuff and stuff built from source,
interesting things might happen; but then you're on your own.

I know. I never do it except when I need it. Remains that mesa 7.9 is there.

FYI libva1 + intel VAAPI driver + vlc using hardware acceleration via VAAPI is a no go as I hit a known assert in libva.

BTW: apparently the experimental X11 pre 7.6 and the intel driver are not compatible wich may be another reason to build from source if you want hardware acceleration with Intel drivers:

apt-get -s -t experimental install xserver-xorg-core

...
the following packages will be REMOVED :
xserver-xorg-input-all xserver-xorg-input-wacom xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-nv xserver-xorg-video-openchrome
...
