Package: xserver-xorg
Version: unstable

Recently X was updated so that something requires kernel modesetting:
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected.

My thinkpad x60 has problems with kernel modesetting so I cannot use
it. This is with a recent kernel. This is frustrating for me since X
has started up fine for a while. I would like to request that
modesetting be made an option in xorg.conf instead of a requirement,
or removed entirely. If it is an option already, then I apologize but
I don't know what that option is.

Then file bugs so that problems get fixed. Alternatively, if you've
got an i8xx card, try fbdev or vesa.

That's no longer an option for intel. I've blogged several times about
it, describing what we tried. You can read more on that topic on:
  http://blog.ikibiki.org/2010/07/04/We_need_you_redux/
  http://blog.ikibiki.org/2010/10/02/October-X-update/

Closing as not a bug, we have no means of supporting UMS for intel
anymore.

Mraw,
KiBi.
