I've now tried that. Same behaviour.

I've also looked at the git repository and am under the impression that the
last explicitly IGP-related changes date back to August 2008.

Not this week, I'm too busy. Besides, I didn't see anything obvious in the
changelog between 6.11.0 and 6.12.1.

I'm tempted to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version (1.19) since 
the release notes mention:
"ENHANCEMENTS: 
- Updates the video BIOS for the integrated graphics controller."
