Thanks for replying. That's interesting because they aren't symbolic links on my system. Which version of the xkb-data package do you have installed?

Anyway, I gather that they should be the same file.

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     8 May  1 16:00 xorg.lst -> base.lst
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root     8 May  1 16:00 xorg.xml -> base.xml

xorg.* are symbolic links.  Does that answer your question?
