Unfortunaly, I don't know: I installed mayavi2 quite recently, but I
was already using xserver-xorg-video-intel/2:2.2.1-1 from unstable.
Then I upgraded from version 2:2.2.1-1 to 2:2.2.1-2, but those two
revisions do not seem to differ too much as far as upstream code is
concerned (at least, a glance at the Debian changelog seems to indicate
only packaging modifications).

I can confirm that I am using EXA 2d acceleration:

  # grep -i exa /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(==) intel(0): Using EXA for acceleration
  (II) Loading sub module "exa"
  (II) LoadModule: "exa"
  (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//libexa.so
  (II) Module exa: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
(II) EXA(0): Offscreen pixmap area of 19660800 bytes
(II) EXA(0): Driver registered support for the following operations:
  (II) intel(0): 0x00032000-0x00041fff: exa G965 state buffer (64 kB)
  (II) intel(0): 0x00740000-0x019fffff: exa offscreen (19200 kB)

I added this option and restarted the X server.
Let me check if I am actually using XAA acceleration:

  # grep -i xaa /var/log/Xorg.0.log
  (**) intel(0): Option "AccelMethod" "XAA"
(**) intel(0): Using XAA for acceleration
  (II) Loading sub module "xaa"
  (II) LoadModule: "xaa"
  (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules//libxaa.so
  (II) Module xaa: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
(II) intel(0): Using XFree86 Acceleration Architecture (XAA)
  (II) intel(0): 0x01950000-0x0195ffff: xaa scratch (64 kB)

Yes, I am.

Unfortunately I *can* reproduce the bug with XAA acceleration, as well:
I still get the undesired fake transparency effect... :-(
Hence it seems that the bug is *not* EXA related.

I hope I'll find the time and test version 2.3.1, as soon as it gets
built for the amd64 architecture.

Thanks to _you_ for your kind assistance! ;-)
