Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.2.1-1
Severity: important

When rendering the page http://www.howtoforg.org with a clean
Firefox profile, it crashes 100% of the time with the following error message

The program 'gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 23116 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Unfortunately despite my best efforts, I was unable to obtain the
backtrace to which the message refers as gdb doesn't seem to know
anything about a function called gdk_x_error(). I even tried installing
the gdk-imlib11-dev package to see if that might help, but to no avail.

I also get a similar error message when I browse to the page using
konqueror (though it doesn't crash).

I believe I have narrowed this down to the intel graphics driver as this
does not occur when I use the vesa driver, though feel free to refile
this elsewhere if it shouldn't go here.

I have attatched a detailed log of my proceedure for diagnosing this bug.

-- debconf-show failed
Get rid of the acursed flash plugin to keep matters simple and start
with a clean xserver install with the vesa driver as the only option for video.

#aptitude search ~ixorg -F %p | xargs aptitude -y purge flashplugin-nonfree
#mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak
#aptitude install xserver-xorg-video-vesa iceweasel-dbg gdk-imlib11-dev

#/etc/init.d/gdm restart

Now as a regular user once the xserver has restarted with the vesa
driver, here are my display stats:

Looks good. Now for good measure, try it with konqueror:

$ konqueror --sync http://www.howtoforge.org

kbuildsycoca running...

Again, fine. Now, however with the Intel driver:

$su
#aptitude install xserver-xorg-video-intel
#aptitude purge xserver-xorg-video-vesa
#/etc/init.d/gdm restart

Here's what things look like with the intel driver:

The program 'gecko' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 23116 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
   option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Program exited with code 01.
(gdb) backtrace
No stack.
(gdb) quit

I have to admit, I'm not a whiz with gdb so I don't know what else I
should have done to actually get a backtrace.

Konqueror handles things more gracefully (it doesn't crash), but it also has problems:
