Yes, fglrx's libGL is not compatible with current libgl1-mesa-dri.
Ok, but the debian package resolve that (probably by having libGL from libgl1-mesa-dri in both packages.
Exchanging libGL.so.1.2 and i915_dri.so for the versions of the latest snapshot from http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/ fixed the error and gave me direct rendering.
Perhaps you can reassign the bug to libgl1-mesa-glx and/or libgl1-mesa-dri?
