Maybe the software does not prepare the hardware correctly before
suspend, then the hardware state is screwed after resume and the
software is not able to restore it to a correct state even when
reloading kernel modules and X.

Unfortunately, the support for suspend still has lots of bugs and I
don't see a lot of fixes coming from upstream...

Are you doing suspend-to-disk or to-ram?
both
Does it help if you switch to
VT console before suspend?
i'll try but last time i did, resume crashed.
Does suspend work better with XAA?
same result with or without.

i don't complain as i barely use suspend/resume, and my laptop is not supported. but as i had that bug about appearance of lines while scrolling, i was wondering
why would that reappears after suspend/resume.
