I don't know, I don't have another monitor (but I don't think this makes much difference, since the TV supports VGA input).

It works with fglrx (but with it I cannot configure dual-head as I would like), and also in the ugly operating system (perfectly, alas).
fglrx detects the TV and the supported resolutions.

You might want to try the randr-1.2 branch instead, I have some packages if you want to try.
