BTW,

freeglut (my_program):  ERROR:  Internal error <Visual with necessary capabilities not found> in function fgOpenWindow
X Error of failed request:  BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
  Major opcode of failed request:  4 (X_DestroyWindow)

looks like a bug in whatever tries to destroy the window it didn't
create due to there being no visual with necessary capabilities.
