Hi Hermann, thanks for the report.

We have commenced building packages for the next generation of X11. If
you're in a position to do so you might find it interesting to try
them, there are currently working versions in experimental. The
i810-modesetting driver is replaced by the new intel driver.

The packages you might want to considering installing from experimental are
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:1.9.91-1
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.2.99.901-1
libdrm2 2.3.0-1
libgl1-mesa-dri 6.5.2-3

(or higher versions as we get them out)

Note that drm won't work without linux kernel 2.6.20 (not yet in
Debian) so you'll miss out on hardware accelerated OpenGL unless you can
also upgrade your kernel.

Alternatively you could try the last i810-modesetting driver
1.7.2.git20070210-1, newer than the one in unstable but old enough to
not need kernel 2.6.20.

Once you've had a chance to test the new driver(s), let us know again
if it helped recognising your preferred display mode.

Drew
