Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-14

Hi! So, this is kind of an odd one. Not b/c unstable is, well,
unstable ;) But rather b/c X looks like it's starting up just
fine, even displaying the Gnome splash and letting me move the
pointer around, until boom (before anything but the splash shows
up).

the /var/log/XFree86.0.log output is attached.

machine: 500 MHz white G3 iBook (12")
kernel: 2.4.20-pre5-ben0
x server: 4.2.1.1 (Debian 4.2.1-14 20031113044953 branden@deadbeast.net)

i s'pose the server being built with 2.4.22 could be something.
(i'll try upgrading my kernel)

oh, just tried something interesting:
 - started an X server with "X"
 - started an xterm in it (from another vt)
 - from the xterm, ran gnome-session
 - poof. (again, during the splash screen)

other things i can start in X _without_ crashing it:
 - gnome-terminal
 - nautilus
 - sawfish (as "sawfish" and as "gnome-wm")
 - xmms (plays fine)
 - gnome-panel

seems to be something gnome-session is running early on, but i
have no idea what.

could it have something to do with "file gnome-session" saying:
/usr/bin/gnome-session: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped

any ideas?
Thanks!
