Are you sure you mean _woody_ to etch, not sarge?
If you did upgrade from woody then I'm afraid that that is an upgrade path 
that is not supported: Debian only supports upgrading from the previous 
release to a new release (as documented in the Release notes).

Thanks for the warning, but all we can do is hope that people will find 
this mail (or upgrade to Sarge first).
