I've found that I had some remnants of an xorg-common package in
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/.
This was no trouble with xfree86-common-4.3.0.dfsg.1-10, but it led to
trouble with the last version.
Once the old xorg-common package was purged (instead of removed),
everything was fine.
