Better: I didn't realise so far any other app preventing Gnome from
restarting X.

Sorry about that:  drm-trunk-module-2.4.24-ben1
is the version name for the binary built on my machine.
The correct source version for it, according to the local dpkg output,
is
drm-trunk-module-src  2003.10.05-3
