Package: xterm
Version: 4.2.1-12.1

After starting the 'gnome-settings-daemon' (version 2.4.0, package gnome-control-center 2.4.0-4) 'xterm' does not take the settings of '.Xdefaults'. Ending the gnome-settings-daemon does not help.

My entries in '.Xdefaults' are:
XTerm*font: 9x15
XTerm*VT100*geometry: 80x24+0-0

My window manager is fvwm 2.4.16-2. I don't use gnome but start nautilus which displays small fonts if the gnome-settings-daemon is not active.

You probably want to rename .Xdefaults to .Xresources.

As the Xsession(5) manpage says:

       $HOME/.Xresources
contains X resources specific to the invoking user's envir=
on-
ment. The settings are loaded with xrdb -merge. Note t=
hat
              $HOME/.Xdefaults is a relic from X Version 10 (and X11R1) da=
ys,
before app-defaults files were implemented. It has been dep=
re-
cated for over ten years at the time of this writing. .X=
re-
              sources should be used instead.

Closing this report.
