I've discussed this with Fabio Massimo Di Nitto, the Debian package release
manager for XFree86, and I'm going to go ahead and add the patch for
4.3.0.dfsg.1-9.  If it causes more (or worse) problems than it solves,
we'll have to revert it.

Thanks for your efforts in trying to find out more information about this.

All too often, it seems, people just can't be bothered to document things.
