Bug#254618: xserver-xfree86: Xserver crashes (while switching workspaces?)
Hi Branden and Michel,
Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have had no time to do more
test until recently...
Branden, In the meanwhile I have contacted Michel Danzer (who is the
one in charge of the DRI packages) after indeed discovering that
removing xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk solves the instability. Emails
exchanged are included below.
Michel suggests that this might only be a font problem. I'm using the
configuration from my old computer setup, so it might be true that I
have not installed all the fonts I used before. However, after more than
a month of uptime (I turn my computer off no more than a couple of hours
a week), I have had zero crashes of X without the
xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk package.
Just to confirm, this morning I reinstalled the
xserver-xfree86-dri-trunk package and X crashed in less than 2
minutes... I purged it out permanently now:D.
I seem to have video acceleration working without any problem and
hence the above package seems to be unnecessary and buggy. Note that the
other DRI packages (drm-trunk-module-src and xlibmesa-dri) work without
problems.
Thank you very much for your help!!,
