Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-5
Severity: normal

As can be seen, this is a mouse with (including the wheel mouse up and
down events) 7 buttons, so I map the wheel movements to 6 and 7, and
this used to work. But now it's stopped working: emacs, konqueror,
mozilla, gnome-terminal, all seem to think that button-4 and button-5
should scroll.

I'm not at all sure that this is a bug in xserver-xfree86; I've no
idea where these differing applications get their idea of what buttons
correspond to scrolling. However, I'm assuming it's somewhere fairly
low-level, given that it affects both GNOME and KDE. I think I do see
how emacs does things, but I don't see how it could have worked
before---it looks like it's hardwired to 4 and 5.

Previously, I mapped the side buttons (button-4 and 5) to things in my
window manager (things I almost never used, because the buttons are
awkward to press), so I know that this isn't just a bug in the old
behaviour (with the wheel mapping to button-4 and 5, and overriding
the buttons). (Hmm, now I look, I see sawfish doesn't seem to be
showing me those bindings; that's probably a side-effect, however.)

Possibly I'm wrong and this is just showing some bug in previous
behaviour---the emacs code worries me.
