If you've got an "unstable" Debian box, it's pretty straightforward.

1) Make sure you have a deb-src line corresponding to unstable in your
   /etc/apt/sources.list.
2) # apt-get update
3) # apt-get build-dep xfree86
4) # apt-get install devscripts
5) $ cd $someplace_with_a_few_gigs_free
6) $ apt-get source xfree86
7) $ cd xfree86-4.3.0.dfsg.1
8) $ debuild -us -uc
9) Wait 1+ hours for the build to finish, depending on your hardware.

Any questions/problems, don't hesitate to ask me.
