Package: x-window-system
Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4

I have no hardware available for any xserver-xfree86 and I want to use
vncserver.

vncserver provides an 'xserver' but this isn't enough for x-window-system
(via x-window-system-core).

vncserver is based in xfree86 but it isn't a direct part of the project AIUI

x-window-system should be stopping you from installing vncserver; if you
want the latter, install it.

x-window-system is a metapackage for use by newcomers to the X Window
System. You sound like you know enough about X that you can do without it.

Feel free to remove x-window-system, xserver-xfree86, and anything else you
please.

  Package: x-window-system
  Status: install ok installed
  Priority: optional
  Section: x11
  Installed-Size: 224
Maintainer: Debian X Strike Force <debian-x@lists.debian.org>
  Architecture: all
  Source: xfree86
  Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-5+SVN
Depends: x-window-system-core, lbxproxy, proxymngr, twm, xdm, xfs, xfwp, =
xnest, xprt-xprintorg, xterm, xvfb
  Description: X Window System
This metapackage provides substantially all the components of the X Wind=
ow
System as developed by the XFree86 Project, as well as a set of historic=
ally
   popular accessory programs.
   .
Development and debugging versions of the X protocol client libraries and
other libraries provided with XFree86 are not provided by this metapacka=
ge.
   .
Note that Xprint.org's implementation of an XPRINT server is depended up=
on
by this package until XFree86's XPRINT server is operational.

Closing this report.
