Are you sure your chipset supports ARGB cursors? Well, according to the nv_driver.c, only GeForce 2 and newer NVIDIA chipsets support ARGB cursors. All of the docs that I can find only say that "True color" hardware cursors are supported, with no mention of an alpha channel.
