Bug#254632: xterm update results in worse thread view in mutt running inside a GNU screen

> Reverting this patch fixes the problem for me.

However it was a bugfix (which obscured other bugs). The issue is whether
the line-drawing character set should be selected on startup. Normally
applications do this the first time line-drawing is performed. I seem to
recall (unrelated to this fix) seeing a comment about this problem on
NetBSD, that it was a problem with the termcap entry itself (rather than
screen, per se, which does odd things occasionally when the termcap doesn't
match its expectations).

It's possible that the termcap file which I maintain for xterm doesn't
present this problem (see the tarball on my webpage). I might be able
to setup some of my own testing to investigate this as well.
