That's weird, but still this is very likely keymap related. As of
XFree86 4.3, these special key combinations are no longer handled
internally but via XKB. Is xlibs up to date, and none of its files
missing, e.g.?

Maybe it's using a mode with a low refresh rate?

The X server log may give some answers, please post it to this bug.

That's expected with xrandr, it changes the virtual resolution. Try
xvidtune -next/prev if you don't want that.
