3) I didn't report libxv1 as broken in 4.3.0-5 ; I reported it broken *for* *me*, *and* saw that users of other cards submitted similar reports. I agree with you that it might be problems in individual card drivers ;

The information in your original report suggests that there's simply not
enough video RAM available. Definitely not a libxv1 problem.

You mean that the available 4MB video RAM were enough for successfully run glav under X 4.2.x, but not under 4.3.x ? How come ??

(And, oh, BTW, yes, I tried to let the hardware access all the 8 MB video RAM : no ill effects, but no joy either ... so the "VideoRAM 4096" option went back to my X config file, as recommended somewhere in the docs ...).

however, it might also be caused by a new assumption of the libxv1 about a function which happens to more or less well supported by various cards drivers.

SDL doesn't even use the shared libxv1 yet...

Hmmm ... So could you explain why *disabling* libxv1 use (by means of the environment variable hinted at in my previous post) allows me to run glav successfully (see the error it gave me in my initial bug report) ?

I agree that my video setup might be a bit on the light side. But what I see is that
1) before update to 4.3, my hardware allowed me to use a number of video apps ;
2) after update, without any *hardware* change, the very same applications no longer works, unless 3) I set an environment variable disabling what is documented to be the use of Xv by SDL, in which case my setup works as before ...

Could you enlighten me ?
