Glad to hear your problem is solved now.Yes, there have been changes to the i830 part of i810 driver between 4.3.0-2 and 4.3.0-5. But I doubt, that these have anything to do with your problem, because you actually were able to do console switching via chvt with 4.3.0-2.
So, just curious and for the record, would you please try if things also do work, when you add
Option "VBERestore" "1" to your device section? thanks. - Christian
