Could you try to unload all usb/uhci/ehci modules (e.g. by
/etc/init.d/hotplug stop) before starting X?
maybe a newer kernel would help, there was some drm/dri merge somewhere
in 2.4.23 or 2.4.24 ?
Well, I have tried to stop hotplug, removed all usb related modules manually
(even usbcore). I have even disabled the IRQ-assignment to USB in the BIOS,
disabled ACPI IRQ routing in the kernel (pci=noacpi boot option).
According to lspci -v the USB controller has not occupied any IRQ, still it
still did not help on the IRQ problem.
XFree86 still sais:
(II) MGA(0): [drm] failure adding irq handler, there is a device already
using t
hat irq
[drm] falling back to irq-free operation
(==) MGA(0): Direct rendering enabled
could you give linux-2.4.25 a try? maybe try to enable both ACPI and IO-APIC.
(just to make sure it's or it's not kernel related)
Well speaking for myself, DRI works without any problems on a i845G based
board with matrox g550 (in IO-APIC mode) here.
Although, it's just a Single Head Layout...
