Well, you may still want to verify this is actually the problem before
going that far. :) But for 3D hardware acceleration on current nVidia
hardware there's indeed no alternative to the proprietary drivers that
I'm aware of. (Note that the same is true for recent ATI hardware,
unfortunately).
