-- detailed description of problem:

I noticed on the following bug:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=3D178242

someone who had a similar problem to me (looks to be a rash of bugs on
this same topic). I am having similar problems with the 4.3.0
experimental pacakges.

Unfortunately on all the bugs, I don't see it as an open issue still, or =
a
workaround. They are all just closed as "I have downgraded and i'm worki=
ng ok
now". Also, one one of the bugs I noticed it was closed by Branden with =
a
comment like "this looks to be fixed in 4.3".

I have a G400 and the same "glxinfo looks good" -- "glxgears draws a blan=
k
window" problem. DRI shows enabled in the log and in glxinfo. Basically=
, from
what I can tell GL programs look like they should work, and when I run th=
e
programs, they appear to be running (glxgears shows a framrate, for examp=
le),
but I have no images drawn in the window -- The window is blank.

xlibmesa-dri 4.3.0-0pre1v3
xlibmesa-gl 4.3.0-0pre1v3
xlibmesa-glu 4.3.0-0pre1v3

I apologize if this is not the correct project. I tried to extrapolate f=
rom
other bug reports I found, so hopefully I picked the correct one.

Does the X server keep working though, at least if you kill glxgears?

Please provide the output of

LIBGL_DEBUG=3Dverbose glxinfo

(other relevant information like X server log snippets might also be
useful)

Does the X server keep working though, at least if you kill glxgears?

Yes, the X-server continues to work famously... in fact, glxgears appears=
 to
run, the FPS shows, and I can hit ctrl-c and kill the glxgears program...=
 the
window is just "blank" (all gl programs -- screensavers, games -- appear =
to
have the same symptoms...

The purpose of the VideoRam directive is mainly to correct misdetection
of the amount of video RAM, it can't magically expand it unfortunately.
:) The driver operates as if the card actually had the specificed amount
of video RAM. (At least for dedicated video cards; some drivers for
integrated graphics chipsets indeed use it to control the amount of AGP
memory to use for the framebuffer)

Good, closing the bug.
