Bug#213029: xserver-xfree86: upgrade switches from PS/2 to NetscrollPS/2 mouse

Well, that's the mostly likely possibility, but unfortunately we have no
trail of evidence.  I cannot determine from what you told me when or how
the debconf database got changed so as to think you had a NetScrollPS/2
mouse.

There is a tool called "mdetect" (in a package of the same name) that is
used by the xserver-xfree86 configuration script for this purpose.

Well, if the problem comes and goes depending on which version of the
kernel is running, yes, I'd be tempted to blame it on the kernel.  :)

Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't be of much more help on this question.

I don't have a good theory on how your mouse configuration got changed
and, as I said, there's no evidence trail to follow.
