Bug#185403: xserver-xfree86: [savage] "burned" display on Savage/IX-MV rev 17

Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-6
Severity: important

The last update broke my setup: On startup, the screen starts black,
then gets mostly blank, with a dark patch that grows up to most of the
screen, as if the screen (LCD panel) was gradually burning.

I'm using am IBM Thinkpad T21. Here is the lspci -v -v -v output:

Notice that lspci and the X log disagree on the revision of the chipset.

The driver from ftp://ftp.probo.com/pub/xf42sav-27t.tgz works
good. (Version 1.1.26t from there worked OK, too, except for XVideo
extension, which works with 1.1.27t). I attach herewith the
XFree86.0.log when launched with the Tim driver. My best guess at the
interesting part of the diff between the two:

Looks like the stock driver can't talk to my graphic chipset BIOS.

I'm (obviously) available for any additional information you might
need.
