Bug#175911: XFree86 support for Matrox G550 seems to be broken.

Package: xserver-xfree86
Version: 4.2.1-4
Severity: important

See the attached XF86Config-4 file. When I use this file with the
XFree86-supplied mga driver, the monitor on my desk displays a
message -- literally:

  Attention
Out the range
H: 114.5 KHz
V: 107.0 Hz

(which I take to mean that the video card is producing a signal outside
the range that the monitor will accept.) Apart from that message, the
display is blank.

Downloading the Matrox Linux beta mga drivers and installing them over
the top of the XFree drivers fixes the problem (with the caveat that I
need to use a software mouse cursor). In fact, as I have just discovered,
merely adding the mga_hal_drv.o file from those drivers fixes the problem.

Does XFree include the source for a mga_hal_drv.o driver? If so, I would
suggest that it probably needs to be included in the xserver-xfree86
package. (A change to the MANIFEST.i386 file? I haven't looked closely
enough at the package generating scripts to be able to tell what else
might need to be changed.)

Cheers,

Stuart.
