Back again, I did some research with the updated drivers from Thomas
Winischhofer: http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsis630.shtml

I reinstalled X 4.1 from woody (I did the switch to 4.2, because it had
the same problems with dri) and turned dri off -> voila -> 4.1 drivers
worked.

But I saw strange random pixel distortion, when I moved my mouse and when
the harddisk worked -> really strange.

Then I tried following driver (I copied over woody default):
http://www.webit.at/~twinny/sis/sis_drv.o_050902-2.tar.gz

It is precompiled for XF4.1. According to Thomas Winischhofer it
contains many bugfixes over default XF4.1 driver. And the pixel
distortion went away.

Source is here: http://www.webit.at/~twinny/sis/sis_drv_src_050902-2.tar.gz
Should both work for XF4.1 and XF4.2.

Quoting the webpage:

Summary of changes since the release of XFree86 4.2

The SiS driver that comes with XFree86 4.2 is an older version of my
driver. Since then, the following changes have been made (rough
overview):

* For the 300 series, the whole mode switching code was re-written
* Support for 310/325 series was added (including 2D acceleration and Xv)
* Support for the 30xB, 30xLV bridges was added
* Support for the 630ST was added
* LVDS support for the 310/325 series was added (for LCD panels up tp 1400x1050)
* Chrontel 7019 support for the 310/325 series was added
* Dual Head mode support for the 300 and the 310/325 series was added
* For the 300 series, numerous bugs were fixed
(Xv did not work on CRT2; Xv scaled the video incorrectly in
some cases; OpenOffice.org and Mozilla revealed two bugs in the
2D accelerator; the TurboQueue could cause a machine hang; etc.)
* The 2D accelerators on the 300 and 310/325 series now support transparent BitBlits
* A bug for the 530 was fixed (hardware cursor)
* New display modes for the 300 and 310/325 series were added
* Xv support for the SiS300 was added
* Support for I420, UYVY, RGB 555 and RGB 565 color space was added in Xv part
	(300 and 310/325 series)
* Xv support for the 6326 was added (only works on some chip revisions)
* Support for v4l (video4linux) was added in Xv part

Can the updated driver go into the new XF4.2pre debs?

Also found some dri stuff on the page. But I'll try this later and will
report it to you.

so long
Thomas
